(as my mother always used to say to me when trying to persuade me to get out of bed in good time in the mornings!).
It translates literally as “The morning hour has gold in in its mouth” – a fact well known to generations of landscape photographers, who seek out the “golden hour” when the low angle of the sun can give a truly radiant light quality.
So it proved today, when a 5.30am start was rewarded with a glorious
sunrise turning the Zurich Lake, and all around it, to gold.
